Welcome Back Message from the Principal

December 11, 2020

Good Afternoon,

I have a few updates: Today was a beautiful day and the children loved being outside. We do go outside most everyday so please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. The teacher’s asked me to remind you that we keep the classroom windows open a crack for ventilation, so please dress your child in layers.

I hope the lunch program is making your life a little easier, is seems to be a hit. If you want to choose what your child receives please go on to onlineordering.linq.com and you can choose your child’s lunch. If you choose to order online please include your child’s classroom number for easier distribution.

Preschool will be in person December 21st and 22nd

I just want to clarify that the preschool will be in person on December 21st and 22nd. The holiday break will start December 23rd and we will return January 4th.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Weather Event Guidance

In anticipation of a weather event please read the following:

If we should have a significant weather event the superintendent has voiced he may call a remote learning day rather than cancelling school. If we should have a remote learning day your child’s teacher will post asynchronous (remote/online learning) opportunities for your child to access on their google classroom. The teacher has set up learning opportunities for: speech and language, English language arts, math, science, gross and fine motor; along with links to videos and songs. I hope you can take the time to visit your child’s google classroom in the event we have a remote learning day; even if you don’t have time to access all the modules the page will make you SMILE.

If there is a remote learning day or delay you will receive a phone call and or an email from the school. If we should have a two-hour delay: any full day student would arrive two hours after their designated start time; afternoon students would arrive at their designated start time and all half day morning preschool would be cancelled.

Any school closures or delays are also posted on the Whitman-Hanson home page. Please let me know if you have any questions. I can always be reached via email phone.  781-618-7018   patricia.poirier-collins@whrsd.org

No school January 13th – Martin Luther King Day

Early release January 27th – Grading Day

As 2020 comes to an end, and I try to think of a word that defines it I choose “resilient”. To be resilient is to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions. An object that is resilient can spring back into shape after bending, stretching, or being compressed. We have definitely been stretched and compressed to our max in every aspect of our life this year. I never thought I would read articles on “Quarantine Fatigue” or “Mask Shaming”. The one thing that never surprises me is what children can teach us. They look for the best in everyone and they are amazed by the smallest of things. Winnie the Pooh reminds us children are Braver than we believe, Stronger than they seem, Smarter than we think and I think he should add more Resilient than we’ll ever know. As we head into 2021 I’m going to reflect on a quote from Christopher Robin; “I always get to where I am going by walking away from where I have been”.  For your New Year, I hope you find joy in the little things.

Thank you so much for allowing the Preschool Academy staff to be part of your family this year!

With warm wishes,

Tricia

October 6,2020

Good Morning,

It’s hard to believe but we have been in school for three weeks. Drop off and pick up appear to be going smoothly; please let me know if we can improve on the process in anyway. Please remember to wear your mask when you get out of the car to drop off and pick up your child. Within the classrooms the children are working to socially distance and to play in very small groups. The daily schedule may look a little different but the laughter of children within a classroom is always the same. The nurse is asking if your child is going to be out to please email Mrs. Baker at margaret.baker@whrsd.org. This is a change from the original contact person. I have a few updates and reminders:

  • No School October 12th- Columbus Day
  • No afternoon preschool October 14th- professional development. Full day students will be released at noon
  • Picture Day will be October 20th and 21st (more information to come)
  • Parent conferences Evening of October 27th and 28th
  • Parent conferences afternoon of October 28th
  • Early release October28th, no afternoon preschool. Full day students are released at noon
  • We will be doing screenings of all incoming tuition students the month of October (this was scheduled for the month of May)
  • The nurse is asking if your child is going to be out to please email Mrs. Baker at margaret.baker@whrsd.org. This is a change from the original contact person

Your support and patience the past three weeks are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to email me at patricia.poirier-collins@whrsd.org. I hope you have a chance to enjoy the gorgeous weather and the amazing beauty of New England in the fall.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL........

So much has been happening and we are so excited to have children back in the classrooms and on the playground. I have several exciting updates for you. We have been preparing the classroom by setting up centers to allow for social distancing, all toys are being washed and sanitized and the teachers are being trained on best practices during COVID. Students who are full day have been assigned to only one cohort, teachers have assigned times on the playground, and we have staggered start times to reduce the number of children in the hall at one time. We are working closely with the school nurse and the maintenance department to ensure daily sanitizing and health and safety protocols are in place. I’m excited to share some important dates with you:

Drop off and Pick up Procedure

The preschool students will be dropped off and picked up from the preschool door located in the back of the building. Please follow the procedure outlined to allow for a smooth drop-off and pick-up.

As you come down the high school driveway you will take the second  left into the senior student parking lot. Follow the signs to the end of the parking lot, the building will be in front of you. Take a left heading towards the back of the building keeping the building on your right.  After turn, watch for the sign indicating preschool waiting area. You will be met by a preschool staff member who will direct you further.

After you are directed to proceed, continue until you reach the fence opening by the preschool playground. Please bring your child to the waiting staff member. When picking up you will follow the same procedure to the preschool waiting area. You will also be asked to clearly display your colored name card in your passenger windshield during pick up. The name tag will help staff expedite the dismissal process. Parents are asked to please put their child in the car and buckle them to ensure the safety of the children.

Please use extreme caution when dropping off and picking up your child and at no time may parents pass any live parked cars/vans.  To ensure the process runs smoothly, parents are asked to adhere to their child’s arrival and dismissal times. We appreciate your help in keeping all students and staff safe.

Please remember mask are required by adult during drop-off and pick-up.

I will continue to send you updates as they become available. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Have a nice day,

Tricia
